Spanish La Liga outfit Villarreal has officially announced the signing of Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey on a two-year contract ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Partey joins the Yellow Submarine as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Premier League side Arsenal
The Gunners opted not to renew his deal, bringing an end to his five-year stay in North London after his €50 million move from Atlético Madrid in 2020.
However, the midfielder’s transfer comes amid ongoing legal proceedings. Partey is facing five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, with charges filed on July 4. He has denied all allegations.
The 31-year-old was first placed under investigation in February 2022 but continued playing for Arsenal until his contract expired. On Tuesday, he appeared before Westminster Magistrates’ Court, where he was granted conditional bail.
As part of the bail terms, he must notify authorities at least 24 hours before any international travel.
Prior to his move to England, Partey made 188 appearances for Atlético Madrid.
