The Eastern regional secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Jeff Konadu Addo has stated that, the timing of the University Teachers Association of Ghana’s strike is wrong and unfortunate.
According to the secretary, who spoke to Republic FM’s Andy Frimpong Manso at the Teachers Appreciation Day event by Bryan Acheampong in Pepease – Kwahu, these kind of strikes are bound to happen in every first quarter of the year, but the timing of the strike is wrong.
His comments are based on the fact that, governance is a successive developments, though government’s obligations must be fulfilled by the next successive government but the timing and how long they have been hanging but only for the UTAG to raise such concerns at this time.
“Government comes and leave, what is government’s obligation must be looked at by the next government if it failed but my worry is the timing and the longevity this issue has been going on” he added.
However, he admonished for the continuous engagements with the UTAG to formalized the process reaching consensus to get them back to their campuses.
He, however, admonished the teachers to remain resolute as government continues to make proper decisions to address their concerns.
Consequently, he could not establish if the UTAG is being backed by some political machinations to make the government unpopular at the end of the day.
