Residents of Nkpon Neighbourhood at Nungua in the Krowor Municipality of the Greater Accra Region were thrown into a state of shock on Monday, April 12, 2021 when one hairdresser, Madam Afi Charlotte was severely hit with hammer by her former husband, David Atigah.
A swift intervention of a good Samaritan saved the situation, avoiding the worse to happen to the woman who is four months pregnant for another man who resides elsewhere, far from her vicinity.
According to an eyewitness, the man who has a child with the victim break the door to force his way into his former wife’s room to attack her with the hammer.
Narrating the ordeal Madama Afi Charlotte said ‘I was far asleep when David broke my door and flung himself on me, in an attempt to beat me. He then held my neck strangling me, threatening to kill me before he can be free. As I struggled with him, I kept on shouting for help, then neighbours came to my rescue. Else it would have been a different story by now”.
According to neighbours, the man had come with an unregistered Taxi cab and was accompanied by other men.
The victim was severely attacked again when she was on her way to Nungua Divisional police station to lodge a complain about the assault. The man reappeared and struck her in the head with a hammer, resulting in her bleeding profusely.
The pregnant woman quickly lodged her complain at the Nungua Divisional police station and was issued a medical report to go to Nungua Adegonno Poly Clinic for healthcare.
