The Wassa East district police command in collaboration with Twifo Atti-morkwa district police command have arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged assault on a military officer Timothy Adzakosi at Wassa Akyempim in the Wassa East district of the Western region.

The suspects, Kwame Atta Snr and Kwame Atta Jnr believed to be twins were both arrested on Monday, June 10, 2024, following the assault on a soldier.

According to reports, the first suspect Kwame Atta Jnr was arrested by the Wassa East district police command at Sapongso No1 in the Wassa East district heading towards Twifo Praso while the second suspect Kwame Atta Snr was also arrested by the Twifo Atti-morkwa district police command at “Daddy’s Pab” a drinking spot in Twifo Praso.

The two brothers are currently in the custody of the Wassa East district police command assisting in investigations.

Prior to the arrest, the suspects together with some illegal miners allegedly assaulted a military officer at a galamsey site.

Information gathered revealed that Timothy Adzakosi together with three other colleagues visited the galamsey site and was chased by the illegal miners but his colleagues managed to escape.

Timothy was beaten to a pulp and suffered cutlass wounds on the forehead and arm.

He was however rescued by the assemblyman for Wassa Akyempim electoral area Hon. Joseph Akomiah and his unit community chairman, to prevent a further assault.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces have condemned the act and warned the public against calls to attack and assault military personnel.
