WAEC releases 2023 WASSCE results

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2023  West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2023  West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

In a statement released by WAEC on Monday, December 18, 2023, the council revealed that this year’s result is the best in the last four years from 2020 to 2023.

The statement further noted that WAEC will make available login details to heads of schools to enable them to access the results of their candidates.

However, the council has also blocked the results of some 4,878 candidates for failing to return learning support materials supplied to them by their various schools adding that such students are required to contact their schools to be able to access their results.

WAEC further explained that the subject results of 3,647 candidates have been cancelled for bringing foreign materials like prepared notes, textbooks, and printed material into the examination halls.

“In addition to that, the entire results of 839 candidates have also been cancelled for possession of mobile phones in the examination halls. The subject results of 4,280 candidates and the entire results of 1,005 candidates have been withheld for various suspected offences”, WAEC added.

A total number of 448,674 candidates made up of 212,453 males and 236,221 females from 975 schools sat for this year’s examination.

This figure according to WAEC is 5.8% higher than the 2022 entry figure of 422,883.
