Head coach of the Black Starlets, Laryea Kingston, has warned Ghanaians not begin an early celebration after his side’s emphatic victory over Group A opponents, Ivory Coast, in the ongoing WAFU B U-17 Championship.
The game, which finished 5-1 in favor of the Starlets at the University of Ghana Stadium, increased their chances of securing qualification for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations competition since 2017.
Speaking after the game, Laryea Kingston played down any chance of early celebration.
“Its too early to celebrate. For us we’re taking it a game at a time. It’s true that since 2017, we’ve not enjoyed what we are good at. Previously, our youth teams were very good. Its something that Ghanaians are craving for so I will always thank the FA for believing in me, for calling me to come down from Denmark to come and take this team.
“The first day I came down to Ghana, my aim is to change the narrative, meaning to qualify the team,” he said.
The win puts Ghana top of group A, and will play Benin next on Tuesday, May 21.
