Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama, has reiterated his commitment to go after politicians who have illegally acquired wealth through corrupt means when he is given the mandate to lead the country again.
According to him, this will be done in collaboration with the relevant anti-corruption partners to ensure that government recovers wrongfully acquired wealth.
Addressing Ghanaians through a Facebook live on Sunday, June 9, 2024, he brought up the former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah’s controversial stashing of over $1 million in her Abelemkpe residence which was stolen by her domestic workers, pledging that his government will look into all those cases among others.
“Notwithstanding all these socio-economic difficulties, the young people continue to observe the opulence of the [New Patriotic Party] administration’s officials and their families chartering private jets at $20,000 per hour for trips that our own Falcon Executive Jet could have done.
“And as the Minister for Defence explained, it [the Falcon Executive Jet] had no shower for a presidential baths,” he said.
He added that “Ghana’s youth have further experienced how a minister could stash million dollars in her home and only God knows the full extent of Ghanaians taxpayers money that has been stashed by many others in this Akuf-Addo/Bawumia government.
“But I say to the good people of Ghana that, working with Ghanaians and international anti-corruption partners, we shall do all that is humanly possible to retrieve such wrongly acquired wealth.”
