An ongoing special anti-galamsey operation carried out by the IGP’s Anti-Galamsey Task Force at Manso-Adubia in the Ashanti Region has led to the seizure of an excavator at Adobewura, a suburb of Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District.
The operation, conducted on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, around 4:00 p.m., formed part of intensified efforts to clamp down on illegal mining activities within identified hotspots.
The exercise was led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bawah Abdul Jalil with a deployment of 45 personnel and six service vehicles.
However, upon arrival, officers discovered that most miners had vacated the site after receiving prior notice of the operation.
Despite this, one excavator was found actively working. The heavy-duty machine was immediately impounded, loaded onto a low-bed carrier, and transported to the Manso-Adubia base for safekeeping and further investigation.
The Anti-Galamsey Task Force reaffirmed its resolve to sustain operations across the region to protect water bodies, forest reserves, and communities from the devastating effects of illegal mining.
