Global country music icon Dolly Parton has passed away at the age of 80.

In an official statement confirming her death, her team reflected on her massive global impact: “Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience.”

Born one of 12 children on a rundown farm in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, Parton rose from extreme poverty to international stardom. Her journey began at age seven when her uncle Bill Owens gave her a guitar. By 1959, at just 13 years old, she made her debut at the Grand Ole Opry, introduced by Johnny Cash.

Though her initial solo releases struggled to chart, her breakthrough arrived in 1968 after teaming up with Porter Wagoner on the hit duet The Last Thing on My Mind. The track launched a six-year streak of top-10 country hits.

Over a remarkable career spanning six decades, Parton sold more than 100 million records worldwide and penned over 3,000 songs. Classics such as Jolene, Coat of Many Colours, and I Will Always Love You captured universal life struggles with profound honesty and emotional authenticity.

Parton always regarded herself fundamentally as a writer, once noting that songwriting was her therapy and primary form of self-expression. Backed by sharp business acumen, charismatic wit, and an unmistakable personal style, she cemented her position as a towering figure in entertainment history.

The music world now mourns the loss of an extraordinary songwriter, performer, and beloved cultural force.
