Cynthia Morrison, a former Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, has hit a major roadblock in her political career.

A District Magistrate Court in Agona Swedru has injuncted her from holding herself as a parliamentary candidate in the 2024 elections.

This means she can’t take any actions related to the nomination process for the Agona West Constituency seat.

Morrison, who won the seat on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ticket in 2016 and 2020, lost the NPP primary in 2024 to Christopher Arthur, securing only 152 votes compared to Arthur’s 240.

She then decided to run as an independent candidate, citing favouritism and lack of transparency in the NPP’s selection process.

The court’s decision came after plaintiffs Emmanuel Addison, Solomon Nyarko, and Harrison K. Aglago sued Morrison and the Electoral Commission of Agona Swedru.

The lawyer for the plaintiffs, Austin Kwabena Brako-Powers, successfully argued for the injunction, which will remain in place until the court fully resolves the matter.

This development is a significant setback for Morrison’s political ambitions, and its outcome will be closely watched in Ghanaian politics.
