Chairperson of the National Covid-19 Trust Fund, former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo is calling on private individuals, groups, corporate organizations to continue to keep their donations “flowing in” to enable them support institutions, treatment centers and frontline health workers against the covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research’s (NMIMR) symposium series on sharing findings on the Covid-19 pandemic with the public, Madam Sophia Akuffo explained that although the fund is established by the state and is a statutory trust, it is purely funded through voluntary contribution and donations.
“Our monies do not form part of the national budget, anyone who paid close attention to the budget that was read will notice that there was nothing mentioned about the National Covid-19 Trust Fund because the monies we have and use for everything that we do is from donations and I trust that these donations will continue to flow in so that we will be able to enhance the support we give to institutions such as Noguchi, treatment centers, hospitals and frontline combatants against the covid-19 pandemic”. She noted.
