The Akyem Kwabeng Police in the Eastern region has arrested three persons for engaging in illegal mining activities close to the ongoing Abomosu Model Senior High School project.

According to Bryt Fm, the miners stormed the compound with an excavator and were mining at night but were arrested on Friday.

They are currently in Police Custody.

The school is one of the dozens of similar models being constructed by the government in part of the country.

In October 2020, President Akufo-Addo visited the site of the construction of the Abomosu Model Senior High School located in the Atiwa West constituency of the Eastern Region.

The Abomosu Model Senior High School is fitted with the full complement of amenities such as playing fields, administrative buildings, libraries, and dormitories.

Additionally, the V-Block-designed school has a total of 24 classrooms, as opposed to 12 classrooms in the E-Blocks constructed by the former administration school.

Illegal mining has caused severe damage to the environment. It is blamed for destruction of farmlands and pollution of water bodies.
