The daring smuggling attempt, uncovered during a routine inspection on November 18, 2024, included 53 pistols, 65 rounds of ammunition, 74 magazines, and a PC holster.

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the smuggling operation, which authorities confirmed originated from the United States.

Commissioner Brigadier Zibrim Ayorrogo commended the customs officers for their vigilance, describing the seizure as a significant achievement in the fight against the illegal arms trade.

He noted that such efforts are crucial to safeguarding public safety and preventing the proliferation of illicit weapons in the country.

Investigations are ongoing to trace the origins of the shipment and identify any networks involved in the smuggling attempt. Meanwhile, the suspects remain in custody, assisting authorities with their inquiries.

The successful operation underscores the GRA’s commitment to protecting Ghana’s borders and ensuring national security.
