The organizers of Chale Wote Festival have denied making this year’s edition a virtual one as announced by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) in a statement yesterday.

In a Facebook post made by the official page of the Chale Wote festival, they disclosed that even though the AMA are their partners, they do not have the right to talk to the general public on their behalf without consulting them.

They added that, they are now in discussion with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Arts and other partners to see how best to put on a beautiful event that will be safe for everyone.

The press statement breaches our long standing relationship and we will ask that it is withdrawn until conclusive consultations with our partners and stakeholders are done,” they added in the post.

They argued that, so far as the Ga-Dangme Homecoming, Homowo and Yeeye Yee events aren’t virtual, there’s no need for AMA to rush and put out a press statement announcing the virtual concert of the Chale Wote Festival.

They also made reference to the recent football match at the Accra Sports Stadium which saw over 30,000 people at one gathering without any interference from AMA.

According to them, there is a clear unfair treatment at play which is not something they are so happy about.

This smacks of selective targeting and we are rather disappointed,” the post said.
