“We’ll get prepared and arm ourselves for Akwatia” — Amfo Sefa warns after Ablekuma North violence.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Tema West, Amfo Sefa, has issued a strong warning following the violence that erupted during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun.

Speaking to Channel One News, Amfo Sefa condemned the attacks allegedly carried out by NDC-aligned individuals and warned that if such acts continue, the NPP would “arm and prepare” for the upcoming by-election in Akwatia.

Amfo Sefa’s comments have drawn criticism from civil society organisations and election monitoring bodies, heightening worries as political tensions escalate ahead of the Akwatia by-election.

He described the chaos at the St. Peter’s Methodist Church polling station, where NPP figures like Hawa Koomson and Nana Akua Afriyie were reportedly assaulted, as a dangerous threat to Ghana’s democracy.

“This is a sad and dangerous precedent being set by the NDC. Over the years, we in the NPP have conducted ourselves democratically,” he said.

When reminded of the 2019 Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence involving the NPP, Sefa responded, “Then we must prepare for Akwatia. We will meet them there and repeat the same.”

He concluded by rallying NPP grassroots supporters to brace themselves:

“We are telling our boys—get ready, arm yourselves, and prepare for Akwatia.”

The comments have sparked heated debate, with many calling for calm as political tensions rise ahead of the next by-election.
