Ghana’s Attorney-General has formally dropped all criminal prosecution of former National Buffer Stock Company CEO, Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, leading to their discharge by the court on May 5, 2026.

The couple had originally pleaded not guilty to charges involving an alleged GH¢78 million financial loss linked to the national school feeding programme.

Deputy Attorney General Dr. Justice Srem-Sai justified the withdrawal by citing the discovery of fresh evidence, a move intended to preserve the constitutional right to a fair and speedy trial.

He wrote in a Facebook post saying: “Following the discovery of fresh evidence, we have, a while ago, withdrawn from the prosecution of all the Accused Persons in the case of THE REPUBLIC v HANAN ABDUL-WAHAB ALUDIBA and 4 OTHERS. This is to afford each of the Accused Persons a fair and a more speedy trial in accordance with the Constitution.

Later this afternoon, the last-but-one prosecution witness in the case of THE REPUBLIC v KWABENA ADU-BOAHENE & OTHERS will continue her testimony. A former bank relationship manager and, later, employee of the Accused Persons, this prosecution witness testifies to how the Accused Persons got and spent the monies which we believe they stole from the State.”

This development follows a period of procedural friction, including the prosecution’s recent request to substitute witness statements filed in April 2026 with earlier versions from 2025.

The proceedings also addressed a significant legal challenge regarding the composition of the prosecution team.

Defense counsel, including Godfred Yeboah Dame, successfully argued against the participation of an Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) officer without explicit legal authorization.

Consequently, Justice Achibonga struck the officer’s name from the record until the Attorney-General provides formal proof of delegation under the Law Officers Act.
