The Minority in Parliament has boycotted the 2024 State of the Nations Address set to happen in parliament today.
The minority MPs were not in the chamber, despite President Akufo-Addo’s presence in the house ahead of the address.
Reports from parliament indicate that the minority were protesting as a result what they perceive to be derogatory remarks made against them by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) governor, Ernest Kwamina Addison.
Again, they are not happy with President Akufo-Addo’s refusal to sign some three bills passed in 2023 into law.
However, the Minority with the intervention of former President, John Mahama came back to the Chamber for the President to deliver his address.
The State of the Nations Address (SONA), is the President’s constitutionally mandate, to provide an overview of the nation’s current state at the commencement of each parliamentary session as outlined in Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution.
