Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido says he’s elated after his uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke, was elected as Osun state’s next governor in his second attempt.
Senator Adeleke won the seat on a ticket of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Davido was a key figure in his campaign in both the 2018 and 2022 governorship bids.
“Family is everything to me. Apart from that, we the best people for the job – give us one or two years and you will see what’s up,” the music star told BBC Pidgin from his hometown of Ede in south-west Nigeria.
He added on Twitter that it was time to be gracious in victory:

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Senator Adeleke on his victory, saying the “people of Osun have expressed their will through the ballot”.
