A 23-year-old man, identified as Francis Debrah, is in police custody after being shot and arrested during a dawn robbery operation foiled by the Baatsonaa Divisional Police Command.
According to police reports, the incident occurred around 4:00 a.m. on Sunday August 3, 2025, when a patrol team stationed near the Klagon-Ashaiman underbridge witnessed four armed men on two motorbikes robbing a man later identified as Reuben Ayiku.
The robbers, wielding weapons, forcibly took the victim’s mobile phone and wallet containing an unspecified amount of money, before speeding off.
The police patrol team, with the help of the victim, gave chase and intercepted the suspects at Shalom Spot. While three of the robbers managed to escape, suspect Francis Debrah, who was armed with a long sharp knife, refused to surrender.
In an attempt to disarm him, the police were compelled to shoot him in the left arm. He was subdued and subsequently arrested. Two Royal motorbikes believed to have been used in the robbery were also retrieved at the scene.
The injured suspect was immediately rushed to the Police Hospital under guard for medical attention. Police say efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining three suspects who fled the scene.
The victim’s stolen mobile phone and money had not yet been recovered.
