Ghana’s national team has named a refreshed squad for their upcoming international friendly against Mexico, with several key returnees and emerging talents highlighted in the selection.
The squad includes a blend of players from the Ghana Premier League, the U23 setup, and Europe-based professionals as part of new coach Carlos Queiroz’s plans to assess his options ahead of major upcoming competitions.
Among the standout returnees are Felix Afena-Gyan (Amedspor) and Majeed Ashimeru (RAAL La Louvière), alongside Razak Simpson (Nations FC) and Ibrahim Osman (Birmingham City). Ashimeru makes his return after a long injury layoff that kept him out of both club and international action.
Home-based players also feature prominently, with Medeama’s Salim Adams leading the local contingent. He is joined by Ebenezer Abban (Heart of Lions), Ebenezer Adade (Dreams FC), and Simpson, reflecting a strong focus on domestic talent.
Several Europe-based players have also been included, such as Abdul Aziz Issah (Barcelona B), Ebenezer Annan (AS Saint-Étienne), Ibrahim Osman, and Paul Reverson (Ajax FC), highlighting a balanced approach between local and international experience.
Afena-Gyan’s return is particularly significant, as he rejoins the team for the first time since his last appearance in May 2025. His inclusion is seen as part of a broader effort to rebuild depth and versatility within the squad.
The friendly against Mexico will serve as an early test for Queiroz’s tactical plans, offering insight into his preferred system and player combinations as Ghana prepares for future competitive fixtures, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
