The Ghana Education Service (GES) has refuted widespread social media claims alleging that its Director-General has cancelled the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy and mandated a compulsory GH₵1,500 fee for chop boxes and trunks.

In an official statement signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the Service described the report as entirely unfounded and urged the public to disregard it.

“Management wishes to state categorically that the publication is false and should be disregarded,” Mr Fenyi stated. He further clarified that neither the Service nor its Director-General has issued any directives demanding payments for school items, adding, “The Director-General of GES does not have the power to cancel a policy.”

The GES advised parents, guardians, and students against making any payments to individuals claiming to represent the Service, urging the public to rely strictly on official channels for verified information.

Media organisations and the general public were also warned against creating and sharing false reports capable of generating unnecessary panic among students and parents.
