Awutu Chiefs invoke deities on Kasoa MCE over landguard accusation

Traditional authorities in Awutu Odupong have performed customary rituals to summon ancestral wrath against the Awutu Senya East Municipal Chief Executive, Seth Sabah Serwonoo-Banini, following allegations that he publicly labeled them as landguards.

The feud erupted after the MCE commented on the chiefs’ refusal to attend a sod-cutting event for a proposed 24-Hour Economy Market. In a media interaction, Serwonoo-Banini claimed the traditional leaders deployed landguards to intimidate residents of Jei River, a suburb of Awutu Ofaakor. He further suggested that the boycott was a protest against his firm stance, as head of the Municipal Security Council, to enforce law and order across the municipality.

Firmly denying the allegations, the chiefs maintained that they rely exclusively on recognized traditional Asafo groups to oversee local estate developments rather than criminal landguards.

Gathering at the Awutu Ofaakor palace on Sunday, the leaders performed libations to seek ancestral intervention. The Abusuapanin of Kasoa Ofaakor executed the traditional “Duabo” rite, invoking spiritual judgement over the MCE’s remarks.

This escalating clash between the municipal assembly and the traditional council leaves the key market project in limbo, with local security and diplomatic ties severely strained
