Future accountability awaits you – Afenyo warns GoldBod officials

Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has issued a stern warning that officials overseeing the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) will eventually be called to account for massive financial losses tied to the central bank’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.

Addressing reporters on Tuesday, August 18, he insisted that parliamentary opposition would remain steadfast in demanding answers from both GoldBod and the government despite external criticism.

His warnings follow an August International Monetary Fund (IMF) report revealing that GoldBod’s execution of the Bank of Ghana scheme resulted in over $1.7 billion in losses throughout 2025—an amount representing roughly 1.5% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product.

Cautioning current managers against assuming future immunity, Afenyo-Markin stressed that a shift in political power would inevitably bring rigorous oversight.

“The Minority will say this firmly and boldly. It doesn’t matter the adjectives you will use to attack our personality. We know that a day of reckoning will come. They should remember that post-regime accountability awaits them,” he said.
