Kumasi tanker drivers suspend strike after BOST agreement
Share on FacebookShare on XShare on WhatsApp

BOST Energies Limited and the Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union (GNPTDU) have agreed on several measures to address concerns raised by tanker drivers over conditions at the company’s Kumasi Depot.

The agreement was reached during an engagement between BOST Energies and the national executives of the GNPTDU on Monday, August 17, 2026, following a three-day sit-down strike declared by members of the union.

The drivers had protested the deteriorating condition of the yard where they park their trucks, particularly the poor state of the facility during periods of rainfall.

They also accused BOST of failing to rehabilitate the yard near the Kumasi Depot and raised concerns about their safety while operating at the facility.

Under the agreement, the union’s executives in Kumasi will immediately coordinate and undertake the resurfacing of the AG car park in Kumasi.

BOST has also dispatched a contractor to Kumasi to address a hanging loading arm at the depot, with work expected to begin immediately.

The parties further agreed to engage the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) in September 2026 over concerns about the meter-to-meter error margin and report on the outcome of the engagement.

“A contractor has been dispatched to Kumasi to attend to the hanging loading arm effective immediately. Parties to engage the National Petroleum Authority on the meter-to-meter error margin in September 2026 and report on the outcome thereof,” the parties agreed.

BOST also disclosed that a contract had been awarded for the construction of a new car park in Kumasi, with further updates to be provided in due course.

The drivers had also raised concerns over persistent shortages whenever they offloaded petroleum products at the depot.

They attributed the shortages to faults in machinery and equipment used to offload petroleum products from their tankers.

The latest agreement is expected to address some of the operational and infrastructure concerns that triggered the drivers’ industrial action.
